At the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, you can be a part of the famous event that forever changed the course of American history.
On December 16, 1773, a group of American colonists, frustrated by British taxation without representation, proceeded to dump 342 chests of British tea into the harbor, protesting the Tea Act of 1773, which granted the British East India Company a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. The protest, known as the Boston Tea Party, set into motion the events leading to the Revolutionary War.
The museum, located at the Boston waterfront at Griffin Wharf, will let you experience the events first-hand and includes live actors, interactive exhibits, and full-scale replica 18th-century sailing vessels! Go on board and explore how colonial-era sailors lived. Participate in dumping tea chests into the harbor. A full tour takes about 1 1/2 hours.
Both the retail shop and Abigail’s Tea Room are fully accessible. The ships tours have limite accessibility below decks and on steep dock ramps when the tide is low.
